![]() ![]() So i futzed with it trying get it to sit just right and it wouldn't. I was looking at my Pressure Check Valve (PCV) and noticed it wasn't perfectly seated in place. I did not hear any find any brittle or broken hoses and just went on my mary way until the other day i was once again trying to hold myself back from shooting the computer. While i was reading the shop manual it talks about vacum leaks. Needless to say i want to get my car inspected in CA and I hear they don't like CEL's at all. I had been looking for a way to test the boost sensor, but could not find a break down on that one. I even got the ohm meter to test the EGR valve (the mazda shop manual gives a break down on how to do it). I did all the steps of cleaning, scrubbing, re-routing of vacum lines, blah blah blah. I was ready to pull out the shot gun and shoot the computer. Hello All, I too have been chassing the elusive p0402 cel. It's right next to the crankshaft at the bottom of the engine. I believe your last question was for the crank angle sensor, which can barely be seen from the top. ![]() It's what opens and closes the butterflies inside the intake manifold IIRC. The part to the left of number "3" is called a dashpot I think. One bolt and it's out, from the top, right there. Number four is indeed the cam position sensor - that's the connector right under the "4". One more question. Can you see the cam angle sensor from above looking down into the engine bay, or is it a part that you have to take other parts off to view, or see it from under the car? Just cuz I want to know.what is the part name located just to the left of location 3 (line attached to top side of black round part) that goes into the intake manifold? Had to come at it from the back side which produced a tight "U" turn in the line where it connects. plugged the boost sensor line into location 2. took off the cap at location 2 and put it where location 1 is.ģ. I took what Gort refered to as the boost sensor line off of location 1.Ģ. Just looking for a thumbs up (or down) if I put things where they should be.Īlso thought I'd throw in a couple other location questions as long as I have the opportunity.ġ. So far it's been a week and no sign of a P0402 cel coming back, but judging from past experience I know it's not a sure fix. Just to make sure I did it correctly last week. Not much sense in just changing the EGR with all the crud still in the intake waiting. If it comes back, try moving the vacuum line. I'd try cleaning the intake (replace the dynamic chamber gasket and throttle body gasket), cleaning the EGR valve, and resetting the light. ![]() A search here will find the details quick enough. Some folks have good luck with cleaning everything as best they can, then moving the vacuum line (for the boost sensor, IIRC) to another port on the intake. Some 99-00 however, won't come back to life by cleaning the coked-up EGR valve, and need a new one. Usually what happens is this: a) EGR oriface through the upper intake manifold get crudded up, triggers P0401 code (insufficient flow) b) owner just keeps resetting the light c crud gets bad enough that the EGR valve itself get crudded up enough so that it no longer closes all the way, triggers P0402 code. Thanks in advance.Take the EGR out (two bolts and a connector) and take it apart enough to look at it. If all of this doesn't work, I'll get the sensor itself tested but dealer price on a new boost sensor is $400+! This forum has been a big help. Haynes manual on order but wanted some advice from this forum. Should the drill bit be able to go further than that? Is that the carbon that needs to be cleared? If I push the bit further in will it be hitting something it shouldn't? Will it hurt to spray TB cleaner into that fitting? I plan on eventually removing the TB and EGR valve for cleaning but wanted advice on just clearing that hose fitting first to see if it would restore proper vacuum to the boost sensor and clear the code for good. I tried to insert a small drill bit into the intake plenum vacuum hose fitting that leads from the plenum to the boost sensor from the outside as recommended to clean any carbon block but it seemed to hit something solid about 3/4" or so in. I've cleaned the TB w/out removing it, checked all vacuum hoses, replaced PCV, wires, plugs, AF, fixed an intake tube leak, Techron fuel cleaner treatment. 98 Pro 1.5, auto, 193k, no driveability issues. I have read as many posts as I can find on this code. ![]()
